There is a version of you that shows up when the food runs out, the sleep runs out, and someone still needs to be led. Most people never meet that version. They live and die strangers to it. Sixty-one days is how long it took us to get introduced. You don't need a war, a swamp, or a mountain to meet yours. You need a standard that doesn't move, a plan that doesn't care how you feel, and sixty-one mornings in a row. We'll bring the standard.
The man who wrote the standard earned his tab in 1991, in a cycle that still had a desert phase. He has spent the thirty years since finding out that the swamp does not actually end. It changes clothes.
SIXTY-ONE is not his war story. It is the one transferable thing he took out of it: a standard that does not move, applied to sixty-one ordinary mornings.
Phase IDarby
The first twenty days exist to remove your excuses. Not your strength — your excuses. Strength was never the question.
Phase IIMountains
Everything weighs more at altitude. The ruck. The decision. The silence on the rope team.
You learn that leadership is mostly arithmetic done while exhausted.
Phase IIISwamp
There is a 3 a.m. in the swamp when every reason you came here stops working. What's left after your reasons quit — that's what we train.
I found out I was not brave. I found out I was consistent. Consistent was enough.

Dawn is not
a reward.
It arrives on schedule whether you earned it or not. What changes is who is still standing in it.
- 0430Up.There is no negotiation with the alarm. The negotiation is the thing we are removing.
- 0500Ruck.Distance and load were posted last night. Neither asks how you slept.
- 0700Chow.Measured. Less than you want. Deliberately unexciting.
- 0900Your actual job.The program does not excuse you from your life. That is the test.
- 1800Strength.Three lifts. Logged, not felt. The log is the only witness that counts.
- 2100Journal.One page. Tired is not an exemption. Tired is the condition it was designed for.
- 2200Lights out.The hour does not move. You move.
Nothing here is difficult. All of it is difficult on day forty.
Start Day One
01Body
Volume you can survive, on food you'll wish was more. The point isn't fitness. The point is proof.
- Ruck · 4 days a week · load goes up, pace does not
- Strength · 3 lifts · logged, not felt
- Fuel · measured · deliberately unexciting

02Mind
A journal, a standard, and a bedtime that doesn't negotiate. You will hate week two. Week two doesn't care.
- Journal · one page · every night, tired or not
- Lights out · fixed hour · no negotiation
- Review · Sunday · against the standard, not the mood

03Lead
You'll captain tired people through boring misery. If you can do that, meetings will never frighten you again.
- Patrol · you lead · someone else is watching
- Peer eval · honest · uncomfortable by design
- Handover · the standard survives you leaving
The Standard
A printed card. One page. It does not change for sixty-one days, and it does not care which day you are having.
The Daily Brief
0430, every morning. What you do today. Not how you should feel about doing it.
The Journal
Bound, dated 1 through 61. You will either fill it or you will look at the gaps. Both are information.
The Weekly Review
Sunday. Measured against the standard, never against the mood. Twenty minutes, and the hardest twenty of the week.
Your Squad
Eleven others starting the same Monday. They can see your gaps. You can see theirs. That is the mechanism.
The Peer Eval
Day 61. Written by them, about you. Nobody has ever described it as comfortable.
No app to fall behind in. No streak to lose. A standard, and sixty-one mornings.
